Chaplain Bill

Jim, Welcome great to have you on as always. I know today you have a special story for us today that spans from your time in Vietnam until very recently.

My 1st tour in Vietnam, what was my MOS (Job) and where I did it.

Meeting Chaplain Bill.

"Short Timer" ready to return home.

Extending as a 71M-20 Battalion Chaplains Assistant with Chaplain Bill.

Who was Chaplain Bill?

How important is a Chaplain in a war zone?

What does a Chaplains assistant do anyway?

Nine months later I left Chaplain and Vietnam.

I actively looked for Chaplain Bill for 50 years.

November 25th, 2019, I finally found Chaplain Bill.

50 years looking, 296 miles separated us, but 14 days too late.

My message for others that are still looking for someone.

Chaplain Bill giving a sermon to Jim Klug

Over 50 years have passed since I returned from Vietnam. My last assignment was as a Battalion chaplains assistant for chaplain Capt. William Harrison. Because of the Internet searching for people has gotten easier and I had better traction than when I first began my search. One day I entered his name in the Google search and came up with a hit. The Vacaville reporter did a story on him titled, former Army chaplain Bill Harrison served in Vietnam. When I looked at the article and his face I had found chaplain Harrison. I tried the newspaper and left messages. I then tried the memory care facility he was staying in. That's when I got the news, chaplain Harrison passed away two weeks ago.

Here is the story I found: (Matt Sieger - The Reporter)

Harrison at his retirement party in Camp Parks, Dublin, Calif, June 28, 1993.

I hope you have enjoyed this episode! Be sure to keep coming back for more great episodes. If you want to talk to us about something you learned today, if you have questions, or you would like to be a guest on our podcast go to and click on contact us.
